Victoria Park Capital Inc. ("VPC") was created by Investment Saskatchewan ("IS") in November 2006 to manage its private equity and venture capital investment portfolio. VPC, a 100% employee owned company, manages the existing investment portfolio and capital for new investment activities on behalf of IS. As the owner of the assets, IS has established the overriding mandate for Victoria Park Capital which serves as guidance for new investments.
In 2003 the IS Board of Directors conducted a national competitive process to determine whether outsourcing the investment management activities to an existing third-party firm presented a positive value proposition. In the spring of 2004 the Board concluded that a "made-in-Saskatchewan" solution was not only better from a public policy perspective but economically as well. Over time, the organization undertook the preparations necessary to bring in new people, processes and business philosophy.
In 2006 the Government of Saskatchewan approved the creation of VPC and the sale of shares to employees at a fair market value as established by an independent third-party firm. The company is 100% owned by a team of professionals which is primarily made up of new employees supplemented with one or two who maintain the history and roots of the organization.
VPC's founding client remains committed to allowing investments of public money to be made without political involvement and as such, has contracted with VPC to manage the decision-making process and the assets themselves.
It is VPC's intention to develop a strong track record through the management of its client's legacy assets and capital for new investment activity. The ultimate objective for VPC is to become an investment manager of choice and secure new assets under management in the future.
